8th Street Contemporary Dance Company is a component under the umbrella of 8th Street Company Inc. (a non profit organization). It was founded by Katie Sue McSwain in the Fall of 2006. 8th Street Contemporary began its inaugural season with 11 dancers, 3 choreographers and a vision to impact and educate its audiences about the world of concert dance and the performing arts. 

Today, 8th Street Contemporary utilizes strong, accomplished talent with the blend and fusion of Modern Dance, Contemporary, Jazz and Hip-Hop techniques to demonstrate the performing arts without stylistic boundaries. 8th Street Contemporary allows dancers to continue their dance training on a more versatile and higher level.

The professional dance Company was the initial vehicle that later helped 8th Street Company Inc. to develop an Apprenticeship Program, a Concert Series of original repertoire, a Regional Tour, an Educational Outreach Tour, and a Scholarship Program (Project Rising Star).
